Colorado Rockies edge past Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 on the last game of their four-match encounter on Wednesday 25th April at PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Rockies first base Jason Giambi hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the seventh innings to open up a little opening to left fielder Carlos Gonzalez, who scored the first run and gave his team an early lead which slowly converted to a total distraction of
Pirates in the end.
Colorado manager Jim Tracy said, “It's not often that you win a game with three hits," "We rode very solid pitching and we took advantage of a momentary command lapse. I don't know if I could name another guy in the league that's going to score from third
base on the ball that Colvin hit.”
The Pirates starting pitcher James McDonald struggled during the first three innings with his lame throwing, but still able to bounce back in the later innings of play. He gave up one run along with one hit and struck out eight batters of the Rockies.
“I was like, 'man, two more innings is all I needed,” McDonald said. "You're aware of it, but are you thinking about it pitch by pitch. I'd rather have the win or the no-hitter. They swung the bat, they put up hits, they’re still up there fighting."
Though during the crucial moments of the game, the Pirates did comeback equalling the score 1-1 with the help of Pedro Alvarez’s homer to centre field in the bottom of seventh innings, but it was just not enough for ambitious Rockies who took the game away
when Tyler Colvin hit a sacrifice fly giving the opportunity Eric Young Jr. to score the decisive run in the 8th innings.
This is the third regular series of 2012 Major League Baseball season that the Colorado Rockies have won and now looking forward to see their chances in the next coming series’ against the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres,
San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners, Miami Marlins, Cincinnati Red, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies.
