Colorado Rockies have Dahl, Arenado, Story amongst Top 100 MLB.com Prospects - MLB News
The Colorado Rockies may have had a bad season in 2012 but they have a lot of reasons to smile as MLB.com has released their Top 100 Prospects for 2013, three of the Rockies’ names are in the list. The list is made after an in depth look into all prospective
players and reports from the scouts and industry sources.
These include outfielder David Dahl who leads the Rockies’ pack at No. 58, followed by third baseman Nolan Arenado at No.62 and shortstop Trevor Story at No.99.
The 20-year-old Trevor played for the Class-A Asheville in 2012 in his first full season as a professional player. He posted a batting average of .277 and an impressive .367 on-base percentage in 122 games. Story got a total of 132 hits with 43 doubles and
six triples and went long on 18 occasions. He batted in a total of 63 runs.
Trevor was a first round pick for the Colorado Rockies in 2011 amateur Draft from Irving High School in Irving Texas.
The 21-year-old Nolan Arenado has been playing as a professional for four seasons now. He was a second round pick for the Colorado Rockies out of El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California in the 2009 Amateur Draft.
He spent the 2012 season with the Double-A Tulsa Driller and posted an impressive .285 batting average and .337 on-base percentage. In 516 at-bats, he hit 147 times and had 56 RBI’s and 12 home-runs during the course of the season.
He did have a bit of a slump mid season in 2012 but was able to recover from it and believes that he had a lot of opportunity to learn from during his lean period.
The most highly ranked of all the Rockies’ players from the list is David Dahl who was rated as No.58. he was signed in 2012 Amateur Draft in the first round by the Colorado ball club out of Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Alabama.
He has so far played 67 games for the Rookie Class Grand Junction Rockies and has posted a phenomenal batting average of .379 and a .423 on-base percentage. In just 289 at-bats, he had a total of 106 hits and had nine home-runs. The 22 doubles and 10 triples
are also a testament of his hitting prowess.
Dahl was convinced by the Rockies to sign for the ball club and not attend college. He was given a $2.6 million bonus to sign. The fact that he had a 27 game hitting streak shows that this 19-year-old has loads of talent and if groomed properly can be a
big star of tomorrow.
One can see that the farm system of the Colorado Rockies has a lot to offer. One hopes that the ability can be translated into performance and he Rockies can once again make a major impact in the Major League.
