Colorado Rockies hitting spree results in Philadelphia Phillies losing 7-1 - Part 2
The Philadelphia Phillies have been having a rough time lately. They barely recovered from their season high four consecutive losses when they won the first match in the two game set against the Colorado Rockies. but the next match was anything but a victory
for the Phillies.
The Rockies handed the National League leading team a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Jason Giambi who unleashed three mammoth home-runs in the duration of the game. The fact that Giambi, could belt out three home-runs against the team with the best pitching
rotation in Major League Baseball is a big slap in the face for the Phillies who are known for their world class pitching abilities.
Giambi’s ability to belt out three home-runs was something rare. The American League Most Valued Player previously had a single home-run along with four RBIs under his belt since the season began. Manager for the Rockies, Jim Tracy was all praise for Giambi
as he said, "Those were dynamic swings, the type of swings he's taken as a regular player where anytime that bat is moving forward it's dangerous if the ball gets centered."
"It's nice to contribute and get an opportunity to play," said Giambi, "It's exciting, something you dream about."
The first home-run from Giambi came in the very first inning of the game. It wasn’t just a normal home-run that barely crossed the field, as it flew for a good 411 feet. The next one was seen in the third inning when he belted out another one that covered
a distance of 404 feet. The last one was in the fifth inning and although the ball didn’t fly out as far as it did in the first two homers, it was a home-run nonetheless and it put up runs on the scoreboard, which is what counts. The last one went in the air
for 368 feet.
The Phillies managed to put in a single run in the fourth inning as Raul Ibanez hit a ground double to deep centre-field and Placido Polanco scored.
It wasn’t just the match that the Phillies lost, as they had two of their players added to the Disabled List which is already overflowing with some of the best men in the Philadelphia’s line-up. Joe Blanton had soreness in his right elbow and Shane Victorino
had issues with his right hamstring.
The only highlight for the Phillies in the entire duration of the match came when Philadelphia’s beloved Cliff Lee came out to bat and the fans cheered him regardless of their team’s performance. In a team overflowing with fan favourites, Lee clearly is
the most loved after he rejected offers from the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers, who were willing to pay him a lot more than Philadelphia, so he could return.
