Colorado Rockies humiliate Arizona Diamondbacks 12-4 - MLB Update
The Colorado Rockies romped to a 12-4 victory in the first game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Coors Field, Denver on Tuesday, May 24 to take a 1-0 lead in the four-game series.
The Rockies’ bat swung in a great fashion despite getting under 3-0 deficit in the third inning. Carlos Gonzalez launched a one-run homer to the left-field off the Diamondbacks’ starter Josh Collmenter in the fourth inning to open the account. Seth Smith
followed the same path paved by Gonzalez and hammered the second homer of the inning to help his team trim the lead by one more run.
Facing a 2-3 deficit in the fifth inning, the Rockies’ batters again attacked strongly. Collmenter gave away a walk to Troy Tulowitzki who tied the score 3-all. Then Todd Helton and Smith each added an RBI single to take their team to a 5-3 leading position
in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Rockies were in mood to destroy the Diamondbacks’ pitching depth as Carlos Gonzalez and Troy each scored an RBI each in the sixth inning to elevate the lead 7-3. In the seventh inning, Jonathan Herrera drove in his first single of the night and Dexter
Fowler touched to the deep centre for an RBI double before Gonzalez launched his second homer of the night to take the lead into unassailable 12-3 position.
The Diamondbacks’ Xavier Nady gathered an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning but not enough to take his team back into the game. Nady has also scored in the third inning to lead off the game with an RBI double off the Rockies’ starter Jorge De La
Rosa.
La Rosa tossed only two innings before the Rockies’ manager Clint Hurdle replaced him with Greg Reynolds in the fourth inning. The decision seemed to go wrong for the Rockies as Reynolds readily gave away an RBI single, however he struck back and did not
yield any run in the crucial innings from the fourth to sixth.
Reliever Rafael Betancourt, Matt Daley and closer Matt Reynolds also tossed strong innings to confirm the team their 24th triumph of the season.
On the other hand, Collmenter did not let the Rockies touch even a single hit in first three innings, however went wrong in the fourth and tossed wobbly pitches to receive two homers. Collmenter then lost his momentum and he has to end his game after four
innings in which he allowed five runs on five hits, allowed two walks and made just one strike-out.
The Rockies’ relievers Juan Gutierrez allowed two runs while Aaron Heilman yielded five runs. Kam Mickolio, Joe Paterson and closer Esmerling Vasquez remained scoreless over their short spell.
