Colorado Rockies humiliate Florida Marlins 12-5 – MLB Update
Aaron Cook tossed eight effective innings on Wednesday, August 17 and the offence sparked as the Colorado Rockies thrashed the Florida Marlins by 12-5 at Coors Field.
Carlos Gonzalez’ three-run homer was the highlight of a game which saw Ricky Nolasco struggle.
The Rockies do not particularly have an eminently good record against Nolasco who, as the Marlins’ starter, has always dominated the Rockies’ offence. But this game proved much of a change for the record.
"He's pretty much had his way with us," Rockies’ manager Jim Tracy said of Nolasco. "But tonight, we capitalized on a couple of opportunities that we created for ourselves and we didn't let them get away.”
But Nolasco, while acknowledging his weakness did not show it. "I was making pitches. I can't believe how many balls just somehow turned into hits, with the bloopers and ground balls," Nolasco said. "The home run was coming when you have a day like that.”
The Rockies had the commencement of Wednesday’s game with remarkable belligerence. Carlos Gonzalez had the first single followed by Chris Nelson’s another RBI run. If there was anything left, Chris Iannetta had 3-run double that took the Rockies score to
5-0 by the end of first inning.
Cook threw two scoreless innings to maintain the 5-0 lead for the Rockies only to be followed by 6-hit six run third inning of Ricky Nolasco. Chris Iannetta got a single first followed by Aaron Cook’s run that took the score to 7-0 with a single coming off
Mark Ellis’ bat.
With 8-0 edge, Carlos Gonzalez then had the three-run homer whereby the Rockies secured 11-0 lead by the end of the third inning. With such a lead to the Colorado Rockies’ favour, the starter Aaron Cook had his best pitching spell up until the seventh.
Entering into the eighth, Jose Lopez ended the run drought for the Marlins in the eighth with his homer. Mike Stanton followed by a two-run homer that gave the Marlins a modicum of confidence in a seemingly embarrassing encounter.
As Ryan Webb came to pitch the eighth, Eric Young Jr. singled to score the 12th run for the Colorado Rockies, ultimately establishing the team’s dominance in the team. The lead was comfortable enough to call Matt Reynolds to pitch the last.
The Rockies closer tossed good pitches, but Dewayne Wise and Jose Lopez scored a single each in the inning to make it 12-5 for the Marlins. Nonetheless, Reynolds sent others packing to conclude the game with 12-5 win for the Rockies to also win the three-game
series by 2-1.
The Rockies managed to put in a tremendous effort and humiliate the Marlins.
