Colorado Rockies humiliated by Arizona Diamondbacks 2-6 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-6 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 24 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Rockies’ entire roster did not show their aggressive style of game-play and lost in the end. They did not show any fighting spirit which proved disastrous in the end.
Rockies’ upfront offence just could not hold on to their natural game and eventually lost bitterly by the Diamondbacks.
The big names, especially starter Edwar Cabrera looked uncomfortable on the mound and hammered with extreme power. Diamondbacks’ hitters played nicely and smashed him with enormous control. They hit him for two runs and two earned runs.
Cabrera also allowed four hits and struck-out only four Diamondbacks’ batters on his 11.12 ERA.
This was one of the worst performances of Cabrera after coming into the second half of the season. He was playing a balanced game but since the second half, his performances are proving to be real devastating for the Rockies.
"I thought that what he did tonight -- in relation to his first start -- was that he was not quite as ramped up and he kept his velocity where it should be in order for him to be effective," Rockies’ manager Jim Tracy said. "But I think the learning point
for Edwar is that you can't pitch behind in the count in this league. The other thing he is learning is the quality of his offspeed pitches and throwing those for strikes."
Not only Cabrera played poorly but the relief pitcher Josh Roenicke also did not play well.
He was hammered with two runs, two hits and two earned runs in just 2.2 innings. Though he is considered one of the most consistent relief pitchers of the Rockies, but on Tuesday, he also seemed out of colour and could not save the game for his team.
Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks pitchers were right on target and tossed some tremendous deliveries and won the game in the end.
Starter Joe Saunders, who has been playing quite consistent this season, again performed tremendously and earned a great victory for the Diamondbacks with his seven solid innings in which he allowed only two runs and three hits.
