Colorado Rockies humiliated by Philadelphia Phillies 1-5 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies comprehensively lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 1-5 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 15 at Coors Field in Denver.
Rockies played poorly from start of the game and never looked confident against the Phillies. Their pitchers were hammered by the Phillies’ hitters.
Phillies’ went early into the lead and never gave any chance to their opponents and ousted them in style.
Before the game, Rockies’ management was quite confident on their starter Drew Pomeranz’s recent past performances but as soon as he came on the mound, his confidence was shattered by the Phillies’ hitting prowess.
Phillies made five quick runs on Pomeranz’s pitching and showed their strong grip. He was also hit with five hits and five earned runs. He struck-out five while his ERA remained 3.79.
Though later Rockies’ relief pitcher and closer played well but it was too late as the damage was already done.
Phillies on the other hand, played a very intelligent game and proved literally unplayable to the Rockies.
Phillies’ starter Cole Hamels pitched eight solid innings and gave up only one run on six hits. He also gave one earned run and struck-out seven Rockies hitters as his ERA remained consistent at 3.07.
"I just have to go out and do my own business and make pitches and pitch in ballgames every five days and I think that's all I can be accountable for," Hamels said. "It's nothing I'm going to focus on or worry about."
Team-mate Hunter Pence commented on Hamels’ performance and said, "Cole seems like he's focused and he's able to block it out, hopefully, he doesn't have to do this too much and we can turn this thing around. We all have faith, We're feeling good and we're
going to keep pushing."
Meanwhile, this was a tremendous win for the Phillies as they are now looking well into a possible post-season qualification.
This is also a possibility that Phillies, who at the moment are at bottom in the National League East might start a good beginning and come together as a team to start winning more games at this crucial stage of the regular season.
