Colorado Rockies humiliated by Philadelphia Phillies 2-7 – MLB Update
The Colorado Rockies humiliated by the Philadelphia Phillies 2-7 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, June 19 at Citizens Bank Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Rockies who are already struggling to keep the pace up, received another hammering from the Phillies.
Rockies offence looked tired and gave too many chances to the Phillies’ batting line-up to dominate them and eventually fell short in nine innings.
Starter Cole Hamels was the one man in the Phillies’ rotation who never lost the composure in his eight innings in which he received six hits and two runs along with two earned runs. He also struck-out seven Rockies batters and sustained his 3.25 ERA with great thrust.
"It was a solid team effort, We were able to battle, get runs. That's what it really takes. I know what I'm capable of doing and I wasn't showing that the last couple games, It's a long season and we have to minimize the bumps in the road." Hamels said after the game with confidence and told the reporters about his outing.
“Outman didn't do a bad job, He was efficient in the strike zone. He just made a mistake with two outs." Rockies manager Jim Tracy said on his team’s defeat.
"He's one of these hitters that builds his confidence, He's starting to swing very good. When he gets on, it adds life to our game," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said on his team’s tremendous combined effort.
Rockies who were coming with the poor win-loss record, yet again could not show the real thrust in their game and lost bitterly in the end.
Starter Josh Outman showed no energy in his game as he pitched 4.1 innings and received four runs and four earned runs along with one homer.
Closer Adam Ottavino allowed three runs and two hits along with three earned runs which rose his ERA to 3.20.
With another defeat, the Rockies now sitting at fourth position in the National League West Division with 25-41 win loss record along with .379 winning percentage.
