Colorado Rockies lose Troy Tulowitzki for four to six weeks with a broken rib - MLB News
Colorado Rockies suffered a big setback on Thursday, June 13, 2013 after shortstop Troy Tulowitzki went out for four to six weeks due to a broken rib suffered during the game against Washington Nationals.
The injury took place during the eighth innings when Troy tried to make a play on a groundball. The shortstop was feeling some pain for a while in the ribs and this one was enough to aggravate the problem.
Manager Walt Weiss said he knew that Troy wasn’t going to be a part of the game after he saw him come off.
"When he came off, it was very evident he was done," said Weiss
Michael Cuddyer, the right fielder for the Rockies, said that it is a situation in which nothing really can be done. It is something that will hurt a lot and unfortunately no coaching can be done to manage that.
"There's nothing to really talk about or coach through," said Cuddyer. "Pain is pain. If it hurts, it hurts."
Troy is one of the better hitters in the Major League this year and has posed an impressive batting average of .347 and .413 on-base percentage. He has scored a total of 16 home-runs and has batted in 51 runs with 77 hits.
The hitter had done reasonable well in the game against the Nationals as well. He went for 1-for-3 before getting injured.
He is not the only one to get a rough day though he is the only one who will make it to the disabled list. Carlos Gonzalez hit his foot with a foul hit in the first innings and Dexter Fowler was hit on his right ring finger in
the third innings when he was hit by a pitch. However, the two are cleared and should be able to resume their duties as usual.
It is a big loss for the Rockies as Tulo has been a big part of the success for the ballclub. He is the front runner for the National League’s shortstop in the All-Star game but that now is almost certainly not going to happen.
The Rockies will be looking forward to his earliest return.
