Colorado Rockies lose to Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 at Chase Field - MLB News
The Colorado Rockies went down 3-2 in a tightly contested affair with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Thursday, April 25, 2013. The game went to the wire and could have been in favour of either team until the very end.
The Colorado ballclub has perhaps been the most improved team this season in comparison with last year and are currently at the top of National League West with a 14-8 winning record. Last year they had the worst returns in their franchise’s history with
a 64-98 losing record.
Left fielder Carlos Gonzalez, better known as CarGo because of his strong built, felt that the team was unable to execute the plans. He felt that Diamondbacks’ starting pitcher Trevor Cahill made them go after pitches that they should have left alone.
"We just didn't execute," Gonzalez said. "We were going out of the strike zone and swinging at the pitches he wanted.”
It was Trevor Cahill’s first win in the season and currently stands with a 1-3 win-loss record.
Carlos has had considerable success against the Diamondbacks in the past. However, he was unable to bring that to use on Thursday and went 0-for-4 in the game. He accepts that he went after the wrong pitches and a 3-2 score line was something that could
have been different.
He said, "I know I swung at bad pitches, and they're going to keep throwing them until I take them. I'd still expand the zone at 3-2. I'm just getting myself out. They're not getting me out."
Eric Young Jr. felt that Cahill was able to get the ball to drop at the end which made it difficult for the batters. He managed to hit two against the starting pitcher.
"He was able to get that sinker in the zone, sometimes even lower than the zone," said Eric Young Jr."Sometimes when it's up, it's hittable in the zone, but tonight it was dropping more."
The pitching from the Rockies themselves was not bad and they did not give it away easy. They were the worst team when it comes to pitching last season but this time the situation is far better.
Jorge De La Rosa pitched well and gave away three runs. Jorge now has a 2-2 win-loss record.
Manager Walt Weiss feels that he did well and it was the hitters who could not deliver the blow that was needed. The Rockies missed an opportunity in the fifth when the bases were loaded with just a single out.
The performance from the Colorado ballclub so far has been quite good and they have given nothing away with ease. Their pitching has been transformed with the return of experience that was missing in the last season. If they continue on the same lines, they
can achieve some excellent results in 2013.
