Colorado Rockies lose to Philadelphia Phillies 2-3 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies 2-3 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, September 9 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
"We know the progress he is making, but the ball made its way to the backstop too much, That really changed things around," Rockies' manager Jim Tracy said on his team’s overall performance and explained some different aspects which landed them a bitter defeat.
Rockies played under pressure from the start of the game and lost bitterly in the end. Their entire roster did not attack the Phillies' offensive batting line-up and could not save the game.
Rockies' pitchers were smashed with some big hits and remained under pressure during the entire game.
Tyler Chatwood started the game for the Rockies and literally lost it for them. He pitched five innings and allowed two runs and three hits. He struck-out two as his ERA rose to 5.32.
Relief pitcher Adam Ottavino however, pitched comparatively well and received only one hit and did strike-out two Phillies' batters. However, he could not do much and lost the game for his team.
Rex Brothers pitched one inning and allowed only one hit. He was not able to strike-out any batter but he still managed to maintain his ERA at 4.06.
Matt Belisle pitched 0.2 innings and allowed one run and two hits. He only struck-out one batter as his ERA rose to 3.08.
“I just held my breath, You can kind of sense the crowd's excitement, coming down the stretch of games with a chance to win, I don't think anybody in this clubhouse has written ourselves off," John Mayberry Jr said for his team’s overall contribution.
On the other hand, the Phillies' pitchers played very well and earned a great victory. They remained focused on their objective and rattled the Rockies with great determination.
"Even though it's coming down to the wire, it's fun," Cole Hamels said.
Starter Cole Hamels pitched tremendously and received two runs and five hits on his seven innings spell. He retired six hitters and maintained his ERA at 3.03.
