Colorado Rockies lose to Philadelphia Phillies 6-7 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies 6-7 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, June 20 at Citizens Bank Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
This is the second consecutive game that the Rockies have lost.
"That was a big finish for us," manager Charlie Manuel said. "Just hustling at the end got us the win. That's why you hustle."
So far, in two games, the Phillies have played wonderfully and never gave any chance to the Rockies to take control of the game instead kept them under pressure and eventually won in the end.
Though the Rockies’ lost this particular game with narrow margin but still many experts believe that in no stage of the game, the Rockies looked aggressive and matched the Phillies open offence.
"Out of the corner of my eye, I thought the ball was to the outfield," Helton said. "There's no excuse. I should have been there."
In Wednesday’s game, both sides’ batting line-ups played brilliant but their pitching offence miserably failed.
Both teams’ starters were hammered with total 10 runs which also effected on their ERA.
Alex White received five hits, five runs and five earned runs as his ERA increased to 6.06.
On the other hand, Joe Blanton also hit for five runs and six hits along with five earned runs as his ERA rose to 5.04.
Later in the game some of the Phillies players commented in the media about their team’s tremendous win.
"When you're not doing the big things, the little things work to your advantage," Victorino said. "Hopefully it'll kick start something."
"I thought I was out on the way," Polanco said. "When I got close to the bag, I saw he was off and I had a chance."
The Phillies, despite winning this game, are still struggling to keep up the pace to qualify for the post-season. They still need some consistency in their results to achieve minimum .500 winning percentage while at the moment, they are sitting at bottom with 33-38 win-loss along with .465 winning percentage.
Colorado will be looking to improve their performance and build up some much needed confidence for the remainder of the season.
