Colorado Rockies lose to Pittsburgh Pirates 2-6 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies lost to Pittsburgh Pirates 2-6 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 17 at Coors Field in Denver.
Rockies had a decent first half of the season but at the moment are struggling to keep up the pace in the second half. They have lost the first series against the Philadelphia Phillies and do not look confident with their current performance as well.
In Tuesday’s game, they again could not match the Pirates’ brilliance and lost in the end.
"It's a mile marker along the way," Pirates’ manager Clint Hurdle said. "There's a bunch of people in there who planned on getting there earlier than we did. We played well tonight, but we haven't found our rhythm on the road yet."
Rockies main players looked out of form as they did not show any fighting spirit which eventually cost them a humiliating defeat.
Starter Christian Friedrich, who is considered one of the most consistent players in the Rockies, did not show his natural game.
He was too way-ward with his pitching as he gave five important runs and five earned runs in his 4.2 innings spell.
He was also hammered with six hits and one homer while his ERA also rose to 5.85.
Later, Rockies’ closing pitchers maintained a healthy momentum but it was already too late to save to the game.
Rockies’ talented starter who is at the moment playing with a 5-7 win-loss record, certainly seemed out of colour as he could not pitch accurately during his spell.
Friedrich said, "It just got away from me, You can't go into an inning when you have the seven, eight and nine hitters coming up and you walk the two leadoff hitters. You have to find a way to get that big out and I didn't get to it.”
On the other hand, Pirates’ pitcher Erik Bedard played better than the Rockies’ starter and won the game for his team. Bedard pitched 6.2 innings and received only two runs on eight hits while he struck-out four as his ERA remained consistent at 4.55.
The Pirates will be happy with their performance as they manage to take a decent victory and build up some much needed confidence in their game-play.
