Colorado Rockies lose to Pittsburgh Pirates 4-5 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies lost to Pittsburgh Pirates 4-5 in their first regular four game series at PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, April 24 in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Andrew McCutchen played brilliantly for the Pirates and handed the Rockies their first defeat in four game regular series with an exceptional homer and three RBIs on total five at bats.
McCutchen said after the game with sheer excitement, “It was three frustrating at-bats, Man, three-at bats, I can't believe he got me out.' You know he has nothing to throw by you, but he just nitpicks, he hits his spots and he gets outs."
McCutchen added “I couldn't wait to see 95. Honestly, I mean, you don't see 70-79 every day. ... For (Moyer) to do what he did, he did a pretty good job. But as soon as another arm came in there throwing pretty hard, I was like, 'All right, here we go."
Colorado Rockies were coming into this game with huge confidence as they recently defeated Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in their three-match regular series.
On the other hand, the Pirates came into this game also with a winning ambition after suffering a bitter 2-1 defeat from St. Louis Cardinals.
The game started with a two run gap created by Colorado Rockies Carlos Gonzalez’s homer to left while giving the advantage to Dexter Fowler to score a run.
Soon the Pirates reduced the Rockies two-run lead as left fielder Alex Presley scored a quick run.
The game further opened up in seventh innings when the Pirates Andrew McCutchen started his extraordinary play stealing a double into deep centre. While his team-mates Alex Presley and right fielder Jose Tabata scored giving their team one run advantage over the Rockies.
Carlos Gonzalez later did try his best to turn the situation in Rockies’ favour with his homer to centre, but the Pirates Clint Barmes’ home-run and Casey McGehee’s single to right centre proved lethal for the Colorado Rockies.
Both teams will be facing each-other once again on Wednesday, April 25 to show the resilience of getting into the next round.
