Colorado Rockies lose to San Francisco Giants 4-2 – MLB Update
Colorado Rockies lost to San Francisco Giants 4-2 at the Coors Field in Denver, Colorado on Thursday, April 12 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
The 49 year old Jamie Moyer had a great opportunity to become the oldest pitcher to win a big league game but Giants’ Madison Bumgarner spoiled the party, taking a no-hitter into the sixth. He ended up giving just four hits in over 7 innings.
"Yeah, that's what he does," teammate Jason Giambi said. "He gets guys to put the ball in play and you've got to make outs. And you can't make those little mistakes, because he's not a strikeout pitcher. You can't keep asking him to throw more and more pitches."
"He's done an outstanding job," Giambi added. "You can't ask more from the two starts he's made for us. It's just unfortunately we've made a mistake here or there or not come up with the big hit to get him over the top and come up with that first W."
The win will be of great importance for the Giants who had lost four out their previous five games. It will be interesting to see if the Giants can continue their impressive run throughout this month to gain some sort of winning momentum.
The Rockies, on the other hand, will be eager to turn things around in their next regular season game. With just two wins in six games this season, the Rockies have also struggled to find consistency in their game play. After losing their opening three games
series, they were hoping to restore some of the lost pride in front of their home crowd but that did not turn out to be the case as they lost two of the three games against the Giants.
The Giants looked on top of their game play in the opening game of the series on Monday, March 9 as they crushed the Rockies in almost all departments of the game. The Rockies, bounce back strongly in the following game with an impressive 17-8 win to keep
the series alive at 1-1. However, the Giants held their nerves in a close game on Thursday to earn their first series win of 2012 season.
