Colorado Rockies lose to San Francisco Giants 6-8 after taking huge lead at Coors Field – MLB News
It was quite an extraordinary loss for the Colorado Rockies against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, May 16, 2013 as they went down by 6-8 at the Coors Field despite enjoying a six run lead at one stage of the game.
The Giants came back in a gigantic manner after being clobbered for three home-runs by the Rockies’ hitters in the second and third innings. It does not look too well for the home side as the pitcher in the game was Jhoulys Chacin, one of the more
trusted starters in the line-up.
Todd Helton got the proceedings for the Rockies underway with a two-run long ball in the second. Nolan Arenado followed immediately with a solo effort to put the Rockies three runs to the better.
Wilin Rosario doubled the lead in the next innings as he blasted a three-run home-run. The Colorado ballclub appeared to be in total control at this point in time but not for long.
The top of the fourth saw a shift in the situation as Giants were able to get five runs. The heist started with a bases loaded walk allowed to Brandon Belt. Brandon Crawford was then able to smash a three-run RBI double. Matt McCain was able to get
an RBI single before the Rockies could control the affairs and bring the innings to an end.
The sixth innings proved to be decisive as the Giants were able to add three more runs to have a two-run lead which they maintained till the end of the game. Neither of the teams was able to score again.
Jhoulys Chacin recorded the loss, Matt Cain for the Giants got the win and the save was recorded by Sergio Romo to bring his season tally to an impressive 13.
It is not a start to the home series that Manager Walt Weiss and his boys would have anticipated. It is imperative that the team is able to hold on to such a strong lead in order to win games.
In the current season, the Rockies have proven to be one of the stronger team in the Major League and they certainly cannot afford such slips in the future.
