Colorado Rockies lose to St. Louis Cardinals 3-9 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies lost to St. Louis Cardinals 3-9 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, July 2 at Busch Stadium.
The entire game was dominated by last year’s World Series Champions. They started well and kept the pressure on the Rockies as they eventually won in the end.
Allen Craig played tremendously as his two homers created a smooth path for the Cardinals who never give any chance to their opponents to give them a high scoring defeat.
"I am trying to make up for lost time, Being on the DL's not fun, and I'm trying to make the most of my opportunities. I feel like I'm in a good spot, just going out there and having fun. I did hear about that, actually, I thought it was a really tough play for him." Craig said.
Rockies’ manager Jim Tracy was disappointed on his team’s defeat.
"When you walk eight guys, you don't give yourself much of a chance to win. You just can't do it; that's what it boils down to. We've talked about that a lot, and there's probably little else for us to say." Tracy said.
Cardinals’ win was just not a brilliant show by their batters but their pitchers also played an equal part in their team’s great victory.
Kyle Lohse pitched over seven innings spell and earned a good victory for the Cardinals in their four match regular series.
He remained calm on the mound as he received just two runs, nine hits and two earned runs. He also struck-out five Rockies' batters as his ERA remained consistent at 2.80.
On the other hand, the Rockies rotation certainly disappointed with their efforts. They all received runs and lost the game for their team.
From their starter Josh Outman to relief pitcher Tyler Chatwood and Adam Ottavino to closer Matt Reynolds, all finished poorly and received nine runs in total.
Relief pitcher Chatwood was the most disappointing hurler for the Rockies as he received four runs and five hits as his ERA rose to 8.74.
