Colorado Rockies lose to Washington Nationals 1-4 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies lost to Washington Nationals 1-4 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, July 7 at Nationals Park.
Rockies played poorly from start of the game and lost in the end. They never showed any fighting spirit throughout the match and could not stop the Nationals aggressive game.
Gio Gonzalez performed tremendously and earned 12th win for his play. He remained calm on the mound and tossed six solid innings spell and received only one run on three hits. He also gave only one earned run and struck-out six Rockies’ batters as his ERA remained consistent at 2.92.
"It's an honor to know the team won today, That's all that matters to me. It was a team win." Gonzalez said later in the game on his particular outing which proved wonderful for the Nationals’ as they bounced back in the series with 1-1 overall score of their three match series.
Later, Washington manager Davey Johnson also appreciated his player’s contribution which proved one of the winning factors for his team’s win and said, "He didn't want to leave with the game tied, I said, 'You're done. You're not talking me out of nothing and we'll get you a win right here.' Thank goodness we got him the win. He pitched great. I don't know what kind of run support he got there in Oakland, but he's certainly been stingy giving up runs and hits here, He's been very consistent. He's been fun to watch."
Jeff Francis on the other hand, did not play well for the Rockies. He pitched five innings and received three runs on six hits. He also gave three important earned runs along with a homer while his ERA rose to 5.19. This proved disastrous in the end for the Rockies.
Though the Rockies pitching did not play well at all but at the same time their batting line-up also disappointed. They just could not find ways to score and more importantly they did not attack the Nationals’ pitchers as they eventually lost the game with bitter humiliation. The Nationals will be happy with their performance as they seem to have found some decent rhythm at this crucial stage of the regular season.
