Colorado Rockies may trade Dexter Fowler for an impact player - MLB News
Dexter Fowler is an important member of the Colorado Rockies. He had an excellent 2012 season, posting an even .300 batting average. Fowler also has gained the respect of his fellow players and youngsters seek his advice on matters related to the game.
The Rockies have maintained that they are not willing to trade Dexter. Bill Geivett, the senior vice president of Major League Baseball operations said that currently there are no serious offers and such a trade can only take place if the player to be received
is one of high quality.
"We're not in the posture of moving Dexter," Geivett said. "I would have to say that for us to get engaged in any type of serious talks on Dexter Fowler, they would have to come in here trying to take him away, almost."
When inquired if there were any serious talk going on, Bill replied with a bit of humour. "People in their mind have been talking seriously. I don't think we've taken it seriously," he said.
The 26-year-old has been with the Rockies for five seasons. Along with a .300 batting average, he also posted a .389 on-base percentage and hit 13 home-runs to go with his 53 RBI’s in 454 at-bats.
Rockies are looking for some quality pitchers, mainly who rely more on strike-outs and ground outs than fly balls due to the conditions at Coors Field.
Colorado has already had a tough experience earlier when they acquired Jeremy Guthrie from the Baltimore Orioles. He failed to deliver at Coors Field and after being moved to Kansas City Royals, performed extremely efficiently.
The Colorado ball club has long had interest in Wade Davis and Jeremy Hellickson, both of whom are with Tampa Bay Rays. There is currently no indication that a deal may take place.
There is also a talk that the Cincinnati Reds may be seeking a trade by offering starting pitcher Mike Leake along with a Minor League prospect for Dexter. Philadelphia Phillies are also said to be in the loop for Fowler but the details at this point in
time are sketchy.
The search for an experienced pitcher for the Rockies will be less frantic now as they have signed Jeff Francis. Jeff has had a fair amount of experience and will be able to understand the dynamics associated with the Rockies’ home field.
Unless the Colorado Rockies get an impact player that is too good to pass, it will not be a good idea to trade Dexter Fowler. The centre fielder is developing well into a strong weapon and commends respect from the fellow team members. Such a player is not
only good for the team on the field, but equally valuable off it.
