Colorado Rockies outdo New York Mets 5-2 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies defeated the New York Mets 5-2 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 22 at Citi Field in New York City.
Mets’ pitchers did not play well and eventually lost the game. They looked waivered on the mound and were hammered with big hits.
"It seemed like from what I read, though, in previous years we didn't like it too much. But I guess we're starting to like it a little bit more, I'm just very pleased with the way our team's playing, whether it's in New York, Chicago, Coors Field, San Francisco," Colorado manager Jim Tracy said.
Especially the Mets' upfront offence was totally humiliated by the Rockies’ dominant batters.
Matt Harvey started the game for the Mets and received three hits and one run. He struck-out nine but still his effort was not enough for the Mets to seal a decisive victory.
"I feel like there's more that I could've done more I could've helped the team with -- like going eight innings and not giving up a run would've been nice," Harvey said.
Relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez allowed two runs and two hits in his short spell. He could not even strike-out a single batter on his 4.38 ERA.
Closer Frank Francisco could have played better but he also pitched poorly and allowed two runs and three hits on his 6.42 ERA. His pitching certainly was the main difference in his team’s defeat. He also could not strike-out any Rockies’ batter which proved disastrous in the end.
On the other hand, the Rockies' pitchers did quite well and won in the end. They pitched with precision and kept the Mets' players under pressure during the entire game.
Starter Jeff Francis pitched five innings and allowed only one run and five hits on his 5.79 ERA. He kept his cool on the mound and struck-out four potential Mets' hitters.
"We're certainly playing better baseball, As a pitching staff as a whole, we're keeping our team in games a lot more,” Francis said.
Rockies’ relief pitcher Carlos Torres also did well and supported his team-mate Francis with strong pitching. He allowed one run, one hit and struck-out one hitter as well on his consistent 4.28 ERA.
