Colorado Rockies overcome Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 in extra innings at Coors Field- MLB News
Colorado Rockies overcame Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 in a game that went into the 10th innings on Tuesday, May 22, 2013 at the Coors Field in front of a 27000 plus fans.
The win is very significant in the context of the lead in the National League West and Rockies are now just an arm’s distance from the D-backs who lead by just a single game.
It was a ballgame in which the Rockies had a grip all along and were able to get ahead by four unanswered runs by the conclusion of the first four innings. However, a strong comeback by the D-backs in the seventh where they scored four runs saw the game
swinging right into the balance.
RBI singles by Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu helped the Rockies go up by two runs in the bottom of the second innings. The lead was further strengthened by the solo home-run by Troy Tulowitzki in the third.
The Rockies went 4-0 up with the help of an RBI double by DJ LeMahieu who got this second RBI of the night. The second baseman is getting limited opportunities at the moment though he seems to be making the most of them. The 24-year-old has thus far played
in six games and has a batting average of .462 and an equally impressive .500 on-base percentage.
It was a good game for Jhoulys Chacin who has generally been struggling recently until the seventh innings. First Jason Kubel got a bases loaded two-run RBI double. Two walks and a fielding error by Jordan Pacheco helped the D-backs cause.
Martin Prado was than able to get a two-run RBI single to centre field. Josh Outman replaced Chacin and was able to retire the last two after a single by Charlie Blackmon and a walk by Josh Wilson.
None of the team could score in the remaining innings and the game went into the tenth. After a hitless bottom of the tenth by the D-backs, the Rockies bats came to life. Carlos Gonzalez got a double followed by an intentional walk allowed to Troy Tulowitzki.
Wilin Rosario was able to get the leadoff single that saw the Colorado ballclub over the line.
Wilson Lopez, who threw down the tenth innings for the Rockies recorded his first win for the season. Matt Reynolds got his second loss of 2013.
It was an important victory for Colorado and a win in the next game against the Colorado ballclub will take them to the top of National League West.
