Colorado Rockies overpower Los Angeles Dodgers 12-2 in Dodger Stadium
- MLB Update
Colorado Rockies had a good day in the field when they overpowered the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-2 on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Dodger Stadium. The win takes the Colorado Rockies to 16-10 winning record and they stay at the
top of National League West.
Tyler Chatwood picked up his first win of the season. It was a good night for the pitcher who only gave three hits and did not surrender a single run in six innings. This was the second start for the pitcher this season
and he currently stands with a 1-0 winning record.
He felt that he did not pitch well enough in Atlanta earlier. He was pleased with his performance against the Dodgers though and was obliged by the help that was provided by the fielders as well.
"Balls found holes at home in the Atlanta start and I wasn't able to stop the bleeding soon enough," Chatwood said. "I was able to tonight, and the defense helped out a lot."
Rockies’ Manager Walt Weiss expressed his pleasure over the victory, sighting it to be a much needed victory after a tough series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
"It was just what the doctor ordered after a tough series in Arizona and a rough night last night," Weiss said.
Nolan Arenado was happy to get his first hit in only his second game in the Majors and that too in front of his family who were present in the crowd. He said that he could even hear the family cheering for him.
"It's pretty cool, nice to do it in front of my family in my hometown," said Arenado. "You could hear them. They were loud. You try to zone it out as much as you can, but after you get a hit you can hear them."
Dexter Fowler and Wilin Rosario continued to show their good form and the reason why the team so heavily relies on the two. Dexter got his eighth homer of the season whereas Wilin was able to get his seventh long ball,
a three-run hit in the first to get things underway for the Colorado ballclub.
It was also a pleasing victory for the Rockies as they were able to win against Ted Lilly who has a phenomenal 10-2 winning record against the Rockies. They not only won but also gave the pitcher a bit of a thumping. He
exited the game conceding five runs in three innings.
The victory confirms that the Rockies are on top of their group which is not a bad thing at any point in time. They will certainly like to maintain their current form and continue the good work both at home and away. The
current signs appear to be promising and Rockies could well be a threat to some of the big names this season.
