Colorado Rockies’ pitcher Christian Friedrich confident of making a comeback - MLB News
Injured Colorado Rockies’ pitcher Christian Friedrich is hopeful of being fit soon and is raring to go, come next season for his ball club. Should the pitcher be healthy in Spring Training, he should be making it to the opening rotation for the Rockies.
The club is also waiting on the fitness progress of Jhoulys Chacin and Jorge De La Rosa. Rockies are also vying their options in the free agent market and some names have been suggested to be on the club’s interest list.
The 25-year-old Christian Friedrich made his Major League debut in 2012. He posted a high 6.17 ERA with a 5-8 win-loss record in 16 games as a starting pitcher. He was originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2008 in the first round.
The 6ft 4in pitcher is happy with his progress so far and feels that he is surely getting into the groove. "In a normal year, I'd just about be throwing right now," the pitcher said. "Cardio-wise, I'm a little bit behind, but that's the easiest thing for
me to gain.”
Christian is planning on working on his throwing arm in Arizona, though it will depend if the scans on his back are clear. "I was talking to [Rockies head athletic trainer] Keith Dugger, and the plan is for me to go out to Arizona within the next week or
two weeks. I'll make a stop in Denver and will probably have a final scan on my back. Then I can get out to Arizona and start building my arm," he said.
Bill Geivett, the senior vice president of Major League Operations for the Rockies was also satisfied with Friedrich’s progress so far and believed that he has started moving in the right direction as a pitcher. Bill also said that his recovery was right
on schedule. "All the reports are real positive, so he's on schedule as far as health is concerned," he said.
Colorado Rockies are at the moment looking for some good pitching options. They will probably add an experienced free agent pitcher to the line-up and youngsters such as Christian Friedrich can learn a great deal from that. Though for Friedrich, the first
and foremost aim will be to stay fit and improve upon his number. If he does so, there is no reason why he will not be playing in the Major League for a long time to come.
