Colorado Rockies’ players performing well in off-season - MLB News
The Colorado Rockies are pleased with the performance of their players participating in various leagues at the moment. Several of their players are a part of the Dominican Winter League, the Venezuelan Winter League and the Arizona Fall League.
Jhoulys Chacin is currently a part of the Venezuelan Winter League. He has made three starts for the Caracas city and has a 1-0 winning record with a 2.08 ERA. His game against the Margarita where he pitched for seven innings, allowing just a single run
in six hits was a much better performance for him.
The 24-year-old pitcher’s regular season was cut short due to nerve issues on the right side of his chest. In the regular season of the Major League, Chacin had a 3-5 losing record with a 4.43 ERA in 14 starts.
Corey Dickerson, the Rockies’ outfield prospect is currently participating in the Arizona Fall League. He has thus far had a batting average of .306 in the 12 games in AFL this season. The 23-year-old has managed to hit a single home-run and four RBI’s.
He also has five steals to his credit.
During the regular season, where he is a part of Double-A Tulsa Drillers, the left-handed batter had a decent run with a batting average of .274 having hit 13 home-runs. He also made seven steals.
Josh Outman did not have the best of 2012 seasons. His ERA in the 27 games that he pitched was a sky high 8.19 and got hit for seven home-runs in just 40 innings. He did manage nine scoreless appearances out of the last 12 outings in the Major League.
The left-handed pitcher started the year with Triple-A Colorado Springs. After his unsuccessful stint in the Major League, he spent a part of the season with Double-A Tulsa. The 28-year-old did not come to terms until his last game of the season. He posted
a 3.63 ERA with a 2-5 losing record.
Outman has shown some good progress in the Dominican Winter League so far. Representing the Toros del Este, he so far had a 2-0 winning record with a miserly 1.20 ERA. The Rockies may have him in the mix as a relief pitcher during the 2013 season.
Josh as been joined by his Colorado Rockies team-mate Charlie Blackmon in the Dominican League, who is also representing the Toros. Unable to make a start with the Rockies due to a toe problem, the left-handed hitter started the season with the Triple-A
Colorado Springs with a batting average of .303 in 59 games. He played 42 regular season games for the Rockies, averaging an impressive .283 in 113 at-bats. His on-base percentage was .303.
He has served the Toros well in Dominican Republic. Has he average .296 with six RBI’s and an impressive .361 on-base percentage. The Rockies’ player development director Jeff Bridich expressed his delight on the fitness of the 26-year-old. "He's doing well
offensively and defensively, and he's facing a lot of left-handed pitching, which is a good thing, and doing well," he said.
It is great to see that Rockies’ players are performing well in various competitions. The good form shown by the current and future prospects will be useful for the team in the near future. It will provide the club with some much needed bench strength.
