Colorado Rockies rout Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in the first game of their three-match series on Friday, July 13 at Coors Field, Denver.
Phillies, who had a very good first half of the season, could not do much to save the game. They played poorly throughout and lost in the end.
They scored just two runs and never looked confident against the Rockies’ quick six runs.
Phillies’ starter Cliff Lee pitched six innings and gave up three runs and nine hits along with two earned runs as well. He struck-out just four Rockies’ batters as his ERA rose to 3.92.
Lee commented on his performance and said, "He had a great day, him and Pacheco, They had some good at-bats. They swung the bat well, both of those guys. You normally don't expect that out of the bottom of the lineup but they were a big part of them winning
tonight."
Closer Michael Schwimer also could not perform well and was hammered for three runs, three hits and three earned runs. He struck-out one as his ERA rose to 4.79.
On the other hand, the Rockies played as unit and their pitchers performed tremendously. They never gave any chance to the Phillies batters to dominate them and instead kept up the pressure to eventually take the game away in style.
Christian Friedrich pitched six innings’ spell and received only one run and one earned run. He was smashed with five hits but overall his performance remained beneficial to his team. He struck-out seven Phillies batters as his ERA remained at 5.60.
Friedrich said, “I learned so much from observing him, his workouts, work ethic, the way he throws the ball, We had conversations but it wasn't always about baseball, just small talk and stuff. I think it gave me a little more of a competitive edge, I don't
think he's seen me throw besides maybe on TV or something.”
Not only the starting pitcher but the Rockies’ closer Rex Brothers also performed brilliantly and earned a balance win. He pitched one inning and received only one run and one earned run as his ERA remained consistent at 3.82.
