Colorado Rockies rout San Diego Padres 10-2 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies humiliated the San Diego Padres 10-2 in the first game of their three-match series on Friday, June 29 at Coors Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Rockies’ played combined and aggressive which proved fruitful for them as they power past the Padres with ease.
They stretched a ten run gap and later kept the Padres under pressure and never gave them any chance to come close.
Padres however, added two runs, but those were just not enough as they eventually lost the game with bitter humiliation.
Rockies' starter Jeff Francis was exceptional on the mound as he tossed six scoreless innings and received only three hits with no earned run as well. He remained calm in his six innings spell with a 5.47 ERA.
"I hope a lot of our young people are paying close attention as to what you can do with 75 or 80 pitches if you do it correctly," said Rockies' manager Jim Tracy said on his team’s tremendous joint effort.
Tracy added by talking to reporters about some different aspects why their team dominated the Padres and said, "The pitch of the night actually is the 3-2 pitch to Chase Headley, the slider that struck Headley out, Because if that's ball four, we've got a bases loaded situation with a 6-2 game and nobody out and Carlos Quentin standing up there at home plate. That's not where you want to be."
Padres’ starter Jason Marquis however, proved disastrous. His poor pitching literally lost the game for San Diego. He received six runs and six hits along with five earned runs.
Not only Marquis but Padres' relief pitcher Alex Hinshaw was also hammered with four runs and three hits along with four earned runs.
He was also smashed for two homers while his ERA rose to 5.30.
The Padres are already at bottom in the National League West and this defeat further spoiled their win-loss record.
Now with a 28-50 win-loss record along with .359 winning percentage, the Padres will be looking to put in some more hard work and playing consistency if they really wanted to compete in the race towards post-season qualification.
