Colorado Rockies secure a narrow 9-8 win against Seattle Mariners – MLB Spring Training
Colorado Rockies secured a narrow 9-8 win against Seattle Mariners at the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Pima County, Arizona on Tuesday, April 3 in their Cactus League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
For the Mariners, Carlos Peguero displayed some high quality hitting skills with four hits. His two run home run kept the Mariners in the hunt but the Rockies won the thrilling contest 9-8 on Tuesday. Peguero was delighted with his effort that included his
fifth spring home run and three singles. After being sent to the minor league last week, Peguero has been recalled to replace injured Mike Carp.
Minor leaguer shortstop Munenori Kawasaki had a decent outing as he collected two hits for the Mariners. Kyle Seager also had a great time on the plate with his two hits. The striker has a decent .254 batting average with 13 RBI’s. He will be looking to
make the most of available opportunities this season to improve that average. Casper Wells also made useful contribution with the bat but he couldn’t stop the Rockies from earning a well deserved victory.
For the Rockies Erasmo Ramirez looked in commanding form as he gave up just two runs and four hits in three innings to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the game. Ramirez is till new to the Major League Baseball world and he will be looking to perform
on regular basis to secure a permanent place on Mariners’ big league roster.
With three RBI’s, Jonathan Herrera scored four times in six innings to help his team establish complete control over the contest. Starter Juan Nicasio held the Mariners to four runs and eight hits in just over four innings. Rockies’ pitcher went 4-4 with
a decent 4.14 ERA last season. It will be interesting to see if he can post similar numbers in 2012.
In some ways Rockies’ win over the Mariners will be of great importance for them as it will provide them with the winning momentum going into the regular season. Mariners, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back strongly in their next MLB game.
