Colorado Rockies’ shortstop Troy Tulowitzki excited to be back for Spring Training - MLB Update
The Colorado Rockies will be welcoming the fact that Troy Tulowitzki will be fit and raring to go when the 2013 seasons starts. The shortstop has been an important part of the Colorado ball club but could only play 47 games last season as he suffered from
a groin injury.
The Rockies lost 98 games last year, which is the most in their relatively brief history in the Major League. Troy has been an important part of the team since 2006 and has been performing consistently well.
After 2010 season, he signed a deal worth $157.5 million which gave him an extension with the Rockies until 2020. The 28-year-old has said that he is fully ready though he did feel a bit strange when there was talk of him be traded recently.
"I'm fully committed to the team, and it was a weird thing -- the first time I had ever had any trade rumors," Tulowitzki said.
He says that he wanted to stay though he knew that it was not in his control if he was going to be traded. He says that a number of thoughts did cross his mind during that time period.
Troy initially did play through pain but was unable to continue after the end of May. He says that he did try to hide the pain but it was becoming more obvious. He just wanted to do the best for the team.
"I was restricted, and I'd hide a lot of the pain I was feeling, which is why I had some difficulty throwing," Tulowitzki said. "A lot of people noticed what was going on, that I wasn't right, but I wasn't going to say anything."
The shortstop hopes to see renewed spirits as many of the Colorado Rockies players will be returning to the game after injuries last season. Troy knows the importance of Spring Training as players tend to forget the last year and try to do better in the
coming one.
He believes that of the players remained healthy during the course of the season, the team could have a chance in the upcoming season.
"That's what I like about Spring Training," Tulowitzki said, "no matter how the team did last year, if guys gel and the right people step up, and the good players stay healthy, you always have a chance."
The Colorado Rockies have quite a few issues to tackle with. The return of Troy Tulowitzki is certainly a boost to the team’s morale and performance.
They, however, need to make sure that they are able to get the pitching unit together so that the good work by the likes of Troy does not go down the drain due to leakage of runs caused by low quality pitching.
