Colorado Rockies’ shortstop Troy Tulowitzki set to be back in action soon - MLB News
Troy Tulowitzki, the Colorado Rockies’ shortstop is recovering well and should be ready for the 2013 season.
The right-handed hitter was injured in late May of 2012 and was able to play in only 47 games, the lowest number of games he has played in the last six seasons. He has so far played in seven Major League seasons, all for the Colorado Rockies.
He is expected to make a full recovery in a month’s time and will be assessed afterwards. He himself feels better.
"I am feeling a lot better," Tulowitzki said recently. He injured his left groin in a game against the Houston Astros and initially was expected to make it back for the Rockies during the regular season but was later ruled out.
The shortstop has been working with a physical therapist in Las Vegas and has been improving his fitness. Troy is also working on measures that will be helpful in avoiding such injuries in the future with addition of yoga and more flexibility exercises.
It has been rumoured that some teams have shown interest in acquiring Troy including the St. Louis Cardinals. The 28-year-old has been a star performer for the team and has been consistent in his good showing. Troy is under Colorado’s control until 2020
and the club is unlikely to trade him.
He has a career batting average of .292 and an impressive .364 on-base percentage. In 2012, a year cut short by injury, he managed to post a .287 batting average and a .360 on-base percentage with eight home-runs and 27 runs batted in.
Troy has been an All-Star twice in 2010 and 2011. In the same two years, he received the Silver Slugger Awards and Rawlings Gold Glove Award. He also has been a recipient of the Fielding Bible Awards three times.
Walt Weiss, the Colorado Rockies’ manager was all praise for the shortstop and his abilities.
"The thing with Tulo is whatever it takes to keep him on the field, that's what we've got to do, because that's our best shot," Weiss said. "When we talk about taking our best shot, that gives us our best shot with him at shortstop. He's a difference-maker.
He's a game-changer."
Born in Santa Clara, California, Troy went to the Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, California and was a highly accomplished baseball and basketball player including a .519 batting average in the senior year with 24 home-runs.
He attended the California State University, posting a .310 college career batting average and was named as the best defensive shortstop in the Big Western Conference by Baseball America. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2005 in the first round
of the Major League Draft.
Troy Tulowitzki is an extremely talented hitter and shortstop as he has shown some great signs of consistency that is often associated with the greats of the game. Rockies will be hoping that he gets fully fit at the earliest and serves the ball club well
in 2013 season.
