Colorado Rockies show optimism having catcher Ramon Hernandez’s services – MLB News
Colorado Rockies’ new catcher Ramon Hernandez is receiving enormous amount of praise since he has arrived in the franchise from Cincinnati Reds. Hernandez, who came as backup catcher for the Rockies is a hugely skilled individual having almost 13 years of playing experience in the Major League Baseball, certainly gives a great relief to the entire roster which was considered average before Spring Training.
Currently busy in Arizona’s Cactus League, Hernandez is playing there with big heart. His performances so far have given the Rockies a very good position in this year’s Spring Training. While if he continued the same level of thrust for the team, he will be receiving further appreciation from many. Lately after coming into the Spring Training, he spoke to the media explaining why he is extra excited for the upcoming season.
Hernandez said, “I am not going to say we are going to make it, but when you see guys with talent that want to learn and work hard, that's a good place to start. The most important thing is to make them believe and make them realize that they can compete at this level, against anybody. Then they told me I was too slow, it was either catch or nothing.”
He added, “I learned toughness. (Peterson) was all over me every day, trying to teach me something, He was ripping me, but it made me better. I learned about pitchers, learned about some mechanics.”
Looking at his past performances with different Major League teams including Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds, experts advocate as Hernandez has never showed loop holes in his game.
He has been performing for the past 13 years and gave every-team stability wherever he played. He is a good hitter having career hitting average of .266 along with 161 home-runs, 723 RBIs and .330 OBP. Also in the last year, Hernandez performed well and achieved hitting average of .282 12 home runs, 36 RBIs and .341 OBP.
In the meanwhile, this is good sign for the Rockies, who have now the services of one of the best Major League catchers and as he will be giving them winning consistency in the near future.
