Colorado Rockies slip to St. Louis Cardinals 2-6 – MLB Recap
The Colorado Rockies lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 2-6 in the fourth and final game of their four match regular series encounter on Thursday, July 5 at Busch Stadium.
The Rockies showed poor set of skills in their entire series and lost 3-1 in the end. The only game they won was also a very close encounter as the Cardinals fell short by only one run.
"Give him some credit, he's (11-4) for a reason, we had people out there, we got turned away." Colorado manager Jim Tracy said with disappointment.
On Thursday, the Rockies were already feeling the weariness of having lost twice in the series and never showed any fighting spirit in the decisive match.
Christian Friedrich played poorly and was hit for six runs on five hits. He also gave six earned runs as his ERA rose to 5.98.
On the other hand, the Cardinals played relatively balanced as their batters and pitchers performed tremendously and they managed to win in the end with ease. The team is looking good and seems to have found some good rhythm.
Starter Lance Lynn pitched six scoreless innings and did not give up any earned run as well while his ERA remained consistent at 3.41.
He struck-out seven and proved one of the winning factors for the Cardinals.
Lynn commented on his performance and said, "I finally got back to where I felt comfortable, The ball was coming out the way it used to. It was good feeling. I was just off a little mechanically, The ball was coming out well, I just wasn't hitting my spots."
Later the St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said, "The ball was jumping out of his hand, I thought his stuff was as good as any day he's had this season."
Now with this win, the Cardinals stand at third position in the National League Central but if they push their roster a little harder, they will manage to come up to the top. The Rockies will be looking to revamp their strategy and build up some much needed confidence in their game-play. As half of the regular season is still left, most teams will be battling out for a possible post-season spot.
