Colorado Rockies sneak past Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 – MLB Recap
Colorado Rockies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, October 3 at Chase Field in Arizona.
Rockies' starter Jeff Francis played certainly well and showed his offensive pitching which earned him a good win against the Diamondbacks at the end of 2012 Major League Baseball regular season
Francis pitched five solid innings and received only one run and five hits. He struck-out three while he received one homer on 5.58 ERA. He kept the Diamondbacks’ batters under pressure during his spell and proved one of the winning factors for the Rockies.
"We are all competitors here, whether the game means nothing or means everything, We come here to win, and that is our job," Francis said later about the game.
He added with confidence, "I feel like I still have that capability of being a really good pitcher for this team, I carry that confidence in every start regardless how the previous one goes. Today was good one to finish the season on a good note."
Not only Francis but the Rockies' entire pitching rotation played well and hammered the Diamondbacks with great force. It was a well fought victory for the Rockies who did not show any loop-holes in the game.
Overall the Rockies’ pitched nine innings in total and received one run and one hit while their pitchers stuck-out five Diamondbacks batters which smoothed their way towards victory.
"We ran up to .500 a couple of times, went across the line a couple of times, just never ran away from that line, We teetered around there all season, that's where we ended up," Arizona's Justin Upton said.
On the other hand, the Diamondbacks’ experienced pitchers disappointed with their performances. Rockies' batters played them with intelligence and hit them hard.
Ian Kennedy pitched seven innings and received two runs and six hits on his 4.02 ERA. Though he struck-out eight Rockies' batters, Kennedy could not save the game for the Diamondbacks.
David Hernandez pitched one inning and received two hits on his 2.50 ERA. His pitching was also just not good enough for the Diamondbacks to match the Rockies brilliance.
