Colorado Rockies stumped by Arizona Diamondbacks 5-1 at Coors Field – MLB news
Colorado Rockies had a far from perfect day as they were stumped by the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-1 defeat at Coors Field on Monday, May 20, 2013 in front of a 23000 plus home crowd.
The loss will hurt the Rockies more as a win against D-backs would have allowed the team to reduce the difference from the top spot in the National League West. The Arizona ballclub currently leads the pack.
It was also in sharp contrast from the recent offensive endeavours from the Rockies who had scored an impressive 25 runs in the last three ballgames. The Rockies had taken on the San Francisco Giants with full force and had come out on top.
The game was dominated by the d-backs from the word go as they were able to score on regular basis with Rockies unable to score until it was too late. The guests opened their scoring in the top of the second.
They then scored two more runs in the third courtesy of RBI singles by Paul Goldschmidt and Eric Chavez. The scoreboard was further moved in the fourth with an RBI double by Didi Gregorius.
Didi got another RBI against his name with the help of a single in the top of the sixth. By this time, the d-backs had already scored five unanswered runs.
The lone run from the Rockies came in the bottom of the eighth when Jordan Pacheco was able to get an RBI double.
The game was completed by the Diamondbacks pitcher Patrick Corbin who only allowed three hits and threw all nine innings in a total of 97 pitches. 74 of those 97 were strikes, showing the amount of authority Patrick exercised over the Rockies’ hitters.
It was his seventh win in the season without any losses. He has thus far recorded an amazing 1.44 ERA which is the third lowest in all of Major League this season. Jon Garland was the losing pitcher for the Rockies who now has 3-5 win-loss record in 2013.
The loss is a wakeup call for the Colorado ballclub who must not take anything for granted and make sure that they are able to continue their good offensive form that they have had off late.
