Colorado Rockies succeed in landing Matt Lindstrom on a trade deal
The Colorado Rockies are trying their best to prepare their squad for the upcoming season. Most of the action coming up on the plate of the National League West team deals with fending off competition from strong clubs in the region.
The 2010 World Series Champions, the San Francisco Giants will look to reserve their status as victors in 2011 and that will present the Rockies with the most difficult task in their recent history.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres are not far behind from last year’s division champs. They strengthened their rosters with additional players this season and that gives the Rockies a warning sign for the coming
campaign. The Colorado based ball club has made no true move in the offseason period to acquire a top player from the free agency. At most, a few average players have made their way in to the club but nevertheless, change is needed.
That may be one of the reasons why Matt Lindstrom made his way to the side from the Houston Astros. The management brings the player in at a cost of two minor league prospect pitchers, Wes Musick and Jonnathan Aristil. Lindstrom,
nearing 30, is a relief pitcher who doesn’t have a fancy record. During 2010, he posted an earning runs average of 4.39. Furthermore, he bagged 2 wins while losing 5 competitive matches. Matt was in the studios of MLB.com to talk about the move.
"It's pretty exciting," Lindstrom said. "It's a little bit bittersweet because I enjoyed my time in Houston so much and all my teammates and everyone was really good to me down there. I'm going to miss even (the media). At times
I wasn't as good as I thought I was, but [the media] wasn't too hard on me. I'm really excited to get going to Colorado and help them out and provide late-inning relief, especially because that's where I spend my offseason."
The Astros General Manager, Ed Wade, was also willing to comment on the trade and he offered his take on the deal that took place between Colorado and Houston.
"We were very reluctant to trade Matt," said Ed Wade. "But with Brandon Lyon, Wilton Lopez and some of our younger arms, we think we have good coverage at the back of the bullpen. Matt is a great guy and a great competitor and
we wish him well. We've added two young arms to our prospect depth and we think both Aristil and Musick have a chance to help us down the road."
