Colorado Rockies take down Los Angeles Dodgers 9-5 to celebrate Fourth of July- MLB News
Colorado Rockies celebrated the Fourth of July in style as they took down the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-5 in front of a sellout 48,794 crowd at the Coors Field.
The home team was at a risk of being swept by the division rivals before they came back hard. The Rockies got 12 hits in the game. The Dodgers got 13 but were unable to drive in the much needed runs.
Rockies’ manager Walt Weiss said that his club plays in a tough group of teams and they need to perform well for good results.
"You know what, we're in our division, we need to play well," manager Walt Weiss said. "That's it."
Michael Cuddyer was the hero of the night for the Colorado ballclub with the bat as he went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs with a double and a solo home-run. After is 27-game hitting streak snapped earlier in the series against
Clayton Kershaw, Michael appears to be preparing for a new one.
Walt Weiss was all praise for the 34-year-old whom he feels as someone who just keeps on rolling.
"Cuddy keeps on rolling," Weiss said. "He keeps on plugging away."
Starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin picked up his eighth win of the season. He had some issues with his pitches and gave away four runs on nine hits in a little over five innings. The good performance from his team with the bat, however,
meant he stayed out of trouble.
"Wasn't my better game," Chacin said. "But the team picked me up, scored runs for me."
Jhoulys hoped that the team will carry forward the good work with the bat and the ball into the upcoming road trip.
"It's a good way to go to the road and hopefully we keep pitching good and we keep hitting like we did today,” Chacin said.
It was a much needed win for the Rockies who stay in the hunt for the top spot in the National League West currently held by the Arizona Diamondbacks with a two and a half games lead. The Rockies will shortly be taking them on
in a three game series and a performance like this could well place them on the top slot.
