Colorado Rockies’ team manager Jim Tracy has “Indefinite Contract Extension”
As soon as the Colorado Rockies reach Scottsdale, Arizona to start Spring Training, many in the media started asking questions from general manager Dan O’ Dowd back home in Colorado about the Rockies’ team manager Jim Tracy as how long he will be managing the team.
Last week some rumours speculated in the media as Rockies' manager Tracy will not be getting an extension and might leave the club after 2012.
O’Dowd, who personally is a great admirer of Tracy and his managing skills, later explained in the media on all these late speculations which have also somewhat confused many outside and within the franchise on Tracy’s status.
He told the media with quite ambiguity over Tracy’s contract extension revealing actually nothing. O’Dowd said, "Basically what I am saying is that I should never have this conversation with you again, to say it extends just beyond 2013 would not do justice to Jim. It could be until he's using a cane and having trouble getting onto the field. It can be for whatever number of years Jim wants it to be for.”
He added, “The reason that we are doing this today is so we don't have to ask all about it and so when we have our first-game losing streak it doesn't become the focal point, It's indefinitely. What the handshake should signify is trust."
Tracy came into the Rockies franchise in 2009 with a three year deal while performing with big energy, the team earlier wanted him to stay for another two years. He on the other hand never told media or any source as he is seeking a contract extension despite meeting several times with top officials of the franchise in this offseason.
Some experts, who know regarding the tough competition ahead next season, mentioned in media reports that Tracy’s contract extension should be on Rockies’ top priority list in order to show good results next season. On the other hand, now the next few weeks are critical when the Rockies management will be deciding over Tracy and his contract extension before he makes a move to manage another MLB team.
