Colorado Rockies third-baseman Casey Blake’s contract details – MLB News
Newly signed Colorado Rockies and former Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Casey Blake’s contract details have been revealed in the media on Tuesday evening in an official statement from the team management.
The Rockies management, who has signed the 38-year-old free agent Casey Blake at the end of 2011 MLB offseason, published his one year contract details and ended all the speculations which lately created a little hype regarding Blake’s hidden deal.
The details include a one-year $2 million and also another $1 million in performance bonuses if he becomes s starter next season. However, Blake will also make an additional $200,000 for 350 plate appearances for his new team in Colorado with a further $1 million if he reaches 550 plate appearances during the 2012 season.
No doubt, Casey Blake certainly is a good player at third-base position but last season with the Dodgers he could not perform well down the stretch in the regular season. Though, he went with a hitting average of .252 along with four home-runs, 26 RBIs and .342 OBP, but these stats were not enough for the Dodgers' management to re-sign him.
Later, the Rockies also denied exercising team options on Blake who eventually filed for free agency and agreed to a one year deal with the Rockies.
Now since Blake has moved into the Rockies franchise, his morale has enhanced and he is focusing more ahead of the upcoming season.
Experts believe that Blake is coming in the Rockies roster with past experience of 12 years. Having played in Toronto Blue Jays along with Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians, Blake certainly possesses some essential playing experience behind him which will ultimately help the Rockies franchise next season especially in their division standings.
On Blake’s talent, the Rockies' general manager Dan O’Dowd has also stated in the media earlier.
He said, “We think we added a culture-changer, just like we added in Michael Cuddyer.”
The 2012 Major League season is approaching fast and the Rockies with their new signing Casey Blake are preparing hard to give their best in order to become a more competitive team in the league.
