Question:

Colored colostrum.... could I have an infection?

I started leaking colostrum about 2 weeks ago, and now my one breast is sore. (Kind of like your first few weeks of nursing a new born). When I expressed from that side, one of the ducts let out some colostrum that was a rusty color, but still watery. Could this be blood? Is it too early to have some sort of infection? With my first pregnancy, I only over noticed it to be clear or milky white.

  1. most likely it's just something you ate that is orange.  what you eat affects the colour and taste of your colostrum and breast milk.  to be sure contact your doctor or midwife.

  2. That definitely does not sound normal. You should see your doctor ASAP. Better to be safe than sorry!

  3. yes, that is a sign of infection, you should speak to your doctor, some simple meds could clear it up and not interefere with your milk supply
