I'm thinking about trying out for colorguard for school, but I've been told that the poles are quite heavy?

I'm quite short, would that be different?

  1. they seem really heavy and big when you first pick one up, but after a while it feels way lighter and smaller. I'm just barely 5 feet tall and i usually have no problems with my flag hitting the ground.

  2. I was in colorguard for five years. To me,...they aren't heavy.

At first they seemed god-awful. I'd say 5-lbs at the most.

  3. They sometimes seem heavy when you first start spinning but just like everything it gets easier with time and they will feel like your spinning air.

  4. Hey.

    I'm in colorguard.

They actually arn't heavy at all, they may seem heavy after your twirling them around non stop. But I promise they really don't weigh that much.

  5. percieved weight is due to wind drag of of the flag itself, the poles only weigh a few pounds! most tall flags are 5 feet to 5 1/2 feet in length these days!!

    dont be afraid,..go for it!

  6. heavy at first...

better as you learn your routine...

TOO MUCH when you accidentally hit yourself in the head...

  7. hey.  i'm 5'2 and i was captain of my colorguard for two years.  The poles aren't that heavy, sometimes it depends on the silks that they put on the poles.  But after you practice for a long time you gain muscle, and then it will become light to you.  Try out.  Colorguard is amazing :)

  8. I play saxophone but i picked one up one time, there extremly light compared to my sax, it weighs about 8 lbs. So i'd guess maybe 2-3 lbs?
