Coloring my hair...?

ok, so I have super dark brown hair and I wanted to do a couple of red highlights in the bottom layer, kinda like Jordin Sparks in the One Step at a Time video, but I'm not really sure how I would go about that. Should I just foil it or do I have to lighten the pieces first, or do you think that I should just go to a stylist???

Go to a stylist!! Alot of times ppl want to do it at home only to mess up, then it costs you twice as much to get it fixed!

STYLIST BIGGG TIME .

Okay well i have lots of hair stories:

In March i had a honey brown hair colour, And i wanted to put blonde highlights. So i got A Box, Used it, and My friend helped me out. What turned out is that they where so faint, that she chucked alot on my top and my hair was such an Ugly Color! It was like orange\yellow, i looked like a lepread! . Grrr . Than i bought another Box, To dye it dark chocolate brown. So I did. It turned out A Nice Brown. But one week later, It washed alll Out and it was still the same ugly Color!  >:[

So in August, I went to A Salon, drew a picture of what i wanted , and so they did it ( Black Top Layer, Bleach Bottom Layer, With side bangs. And It Looks So HOT. I Feel so much confident now ;D She coloured it , washed it , Cut it , Trim it , Thin It, and i bought their Shampoo For Colour Treated Hair, And A Ultimate Repair Treatment. It was like 50 bucks, and its worth it cause it keeps you hair silky, soft, and looking like you went to a salon each day.

ANYWAYS. So I Recommend To go to a stylist. You never know what can happen lol :P And you can always trust them :P They will do it the exact way you want it , But just to let you know , Prepare 100-150 Dollars.
