  1. It sounds very intense and dark.  If there's plenty of good lighting, I think that it would be pretty.  You might want to use light colored decorations and a mirror to help it feel less intense.

  2. As long as the foyer has plenty of light and space the red will not seem too overwheming. If the red is in a closed space then it may seem like the room is angry (no really) and people will be less likely to congregate in that particualr space. Just make sure to add bright, light, and airy accessories. For instance, dont put heavy velvet curtains in the room with a large valance. Try an off white with red undertone antiquey look. It will appear very airy and set off the red to give the room a cozy, but not overwhelming feel. Make sure you have enough lighting by using muted toned lamps or, if you are going for a modern look, track lighting is a great option. As for furniture, make sure you do not put heavy pieces on all corners of the room like wood and leather. A simple leather recliner would look nice complimented with a streamline cherry or even oak coffee table. Floating shelves add space to the room as well and do not appear as heavy as say a bookcase. Make sure the molding (woodwork) is a nice bright offwhite. Wooden molding will make any room closed in.

I hope I was of some help to you

    Happy decorating!
