I am looking at buying a new car.

I really want a black one but people keep telling me not to buy black because it's hotter. My car now is dark green and it seems to be no different from my fiances light silver car.

Also people have said not t buy black because it looks dirty when it gets some dust on it..but my car (now) is dark green.

Is there really much of a difference between buying a black car and buying a dark blue car or a dark green car.

Is the tempertaure that different from a white car to a black car?

  1. According to my favorite used car salesman,  It is a myth that black cars are hotter.  Something about reflectivity, or some such stuff.  I deal with boats, and if you stand on the deck of a white boat, oppposed to a black boat, there is a "blistering " difference!

  2. A black car will absorb the heat from the sun. A white car will reflect the heat fromthe sun.  There is a large temp difference,  Black cars are more stylish but hotter.  White and silver cars actually appear more dirty than black cars, as dirt is darker colored.

  3. Darker colour cars will always be hotter than lighter coloured cars. Not by much, but it will be noticable.

BTW, in your last question, RE the Suzuki Swift, I didnt realise you were talking about a brand new one, I thought you meant a older car. The new models dont come with the 3cyl motors anymore, and have much more room inside than the older models.

  4. depends where you live, parked in direct sun all day a black car will be dangerously hot... so will a white car... the metal will be hot to the touch a little sooner with dark paint than it will with lighter colors.
