Colsaerts keeps calm and carries on at KLM Open
Halfway through the second round of the KLM Open in the Netherlands, Nicolas Colsaerts currently holds a two-stroke lead.
Colsaerts is 10 holes in at Hilversumsche, but has been unable to match yesterday's rollicking performance, when the 27-year-old finished eight-under-par to hold the first day lead. So far today the Colsaerts has found two bogeys and four birdies to go two-under today, 10-under in total - still enough to see the Belgian bestriding the top of the leaderboard once more.
India's Shiv Kapur is a stroke further back on eight-under, having completed today's round two-under-par, while the USA's Todd Hamilton and Sweden's Christian Nilsson are both seven-under for the tournament. And Germany's Martin Kaymer is amongst the players to move himself into contention, after shooting three birdies on a flawless round to finish six-under in total.
Some of the other more notable names have completed their rounds too, among them Sweden's Robert Karlsson, five-under for the tournament, and Darren Clarke, one-under. Ryder Cup debutant Francesco Molinari is one-under for the tournament but could only finish one-over today, after a double bogey on the 11th.
Fellow Ryder teammate Ross Fisher has only completed the front nine, but he is also one-over for the tournament, having collected four bogeys in the opening six holes. Yesterday Fisher finished with an eagle at the 18th, but the 29-year-old will hopefully begin to turn things round before he reaches that point today.
Italy's teenage sensation Matteo Manassero was third at last week's Omega European Masters, but the 17-year-old has been less sparkling in Holland; he was two-under yesterday, but halfway through today's round is on level par.
So with several of the bigger names having already finished their rounds, the biggest threat to Colsaert's place at the top would seem to be himself. If the Belgian can keep his calm, he looks good value to retain his position as leader for Saturday's third round.
