Question:

Colt Defender Problems?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I am took my Colt Defender to the range today and fired 1 round, after that things got ugly. The gun jammed, I took it apart and found the recoil spring cap had broken off. I called Colt, brownells, and several other companies and no one seems to have it or know what I am talking about. Can anyone help me out on where to find one ? Can someone share there experiences with the Colt Defender ? I also had some magazine feeding problems, any recommendations ? Are the parts interchangeable with the Colt Officer? Sorry for all the questions, but when I mention "Colt Defender" no one seems to know what I am talking about.

  1. I have heard about the jam issue as well as feed issues with the mags that come with the gun from a friend who has one. As well, it's  weight feels odd to some people..holstered, it's as though the weapon is going to flop out.

If you send the weapon back to colt with a detailed descrip. of the issues you are facing, they will repair it. I would ask for refurbishment  /  replacement parts, extra mags and a request to test fire everything before having it boxed up and sent back to you. I do not know if any parts are interchaneable with the Ofc. model. If the frame size is matchable and the fixtures compatable (interior) you may be onto something.....I would call around for a reputable gunsmith in your area and work with this individual. If Colt has not provided you with the answers you want, talk to the gunsmith. The info you have provided to colt may be inaccurate as far as how you have termed the issues.

Overall, the gun is reliable and best carried in a molded underarm holster, f*g bag *fas action gun bag, under the arm* or a hip pack  fixture.

    good luck!

  2. First off, yes parts are interchangeable with the officers model. Because the guns are the same. But The problem may be that the part you need. You are not calling it by it's proper name. I am a 1911 pistol-smith and I've got  to tell you, the part you name doesn't come up in any parts description or list I've got. A picture of it would go a long way in helping to identify it. Have you tried Numrich Gun Parts? www.e-gunparts.com, they have viewable schematics to help you identify the parts you need. Next, what type of feeding problems? Need more info. Mag could simply need cleaning or a new spring.

  3. The Defender is interchangeable with the Officer model, look at Midway usa website and you will find the buffer spring assembly online there. hope that helps you.

  4. Sorry to thear of you problems with the shorty .45.

This same thing happened to me on my Kimber.

There should be a full replacement for the entire spring assembly (inner and outer) ... either from the Manufacturer or from browneslls.

Also.. add a little loctite to the threads when you get it... keeps this from happening again.

replace the springs on the little guy every 1000 rounds or so. Once you fixe the broken end pieces... can change the inner and outer springs from Wolf
