Colt McCoy may get the start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini has stated that he is leaning toward starting rookie quarterback Colt McCoy this Sunday, October 17, for the Browns upcoming game in Pittsburgh against the Steelers.
The Browns have also recently re-signed quarterback Brett Ratliff from New England's practice squad, and he might be another option at quarterback for Mangini.
"I have confidence in Colt and Brett," Mangini said. "[Colt will] get the majority of the reps this week."
Ratliff had been with the Browns during training camp before being let go and eventually signing with the Patriots.
"He's very bright, and he's been in the system a long time so there's a lot of recall," Mangini said of Ratliff. "I don't think jumping back into it is going to be tough."
Mangini stated that the possibility of McCoy getting his first start against the Steelers will depend on the status of Cleveland's two other quarterbacks, Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace, who are both not expected to practice on Wednesday.
Jake Delhomme, who started the season as the Browns' number one, played in week one before getting injured and paving the way for Seneca Wallace who became the starter. Delhomme saw action again last weekend when Wallace went down against the Falcons in
a 20-10 loss. Both Delhomme and Wallace are currently battling ankle injuries.
The Cleveland Browns have had a rough start to the season going 1-4 in their first five games, and are currently at the bottom of the AFC North Division.
Things don't look like they're going to get any easier for the Browns, as they go up against the 3-1 Steelers, who are fresh off their bye week. They then travel to the Superdome to take on Drew Brees and the high-flying New Orleans Saints, before they finally
get a bye week.
