Colt McCoy regains starting role for Cleveland Browns but no more failings for quarterback-NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy, is lucky to have won another opportunity from the team and it may well be his final unless he improves his form notably in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
McCoy, in spite of his all out efforts, has yet to make an impression on the field and when he will come back to the squad from a concussion later this year he will face a tougher challenge of proving himself worthy enough of more chances.
His performance has remained below the mark, with his last season ending at 4-12, and Browns, due to lack of options, have again decided to stick with him on the starting line.
It is for sure now that there will be no more easy rides for the player. He has on the stakes more than his team, who have been through their so called rebuilding phases for last many years. Even a single failing can cost the player his career and future.
McCoy has been lucky recently in the wake of Browns’ failure in reaching a deal with the St. Louis Rams for the draft player. Otherwise, the QB might have become a history for the team.
Most importantly, all three top officials, president, general manager and head coach, have come out with an open and clear support of the player.
This leaves the ball in McCoy’s court now. He is on the make or break point of his career. Either, he performs well in the starter’s role and confirms his future in the league or else fails and fails for good.
Having a look at the quarterback’s performance during past four years, he has remained on and off in the form. Although, he did not fail as much as Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie QB, Blaine Gabbert, he is yet to make an impact as a starter.
It is important for the player to note that he is already in middle stage of his career and lucky in the sense that in spite of all the criticism, he is able to win the starting position. There are a number of QBs of his calibre lingering on the backup positions.
So, he must prove his worth now and become a consistent winner on the starting line. Otherwise, he could face the prospects of either pushed back or let go elsewhere.
Both the team and player hope he is able to fully recover from the concussion he suffered in the later part of the past season, and is able to remain healthy and fit throughout.
