High School State Championships
Colton Holland of Heritage High School and Eunsol Chon of Bentonville High School conquered gold medals of Boys 100yard freestyle and Girls 500yard freestyle respectively on second day of the Arkansas High School State Championships for
Boys and Girls in Little Rock on February 25.
Holland experienced strong resistance from his competitors in the race but with his true determination, he succeeded in proving his supremacy for gold medal. He ended his swim in a phenomenal time of 48.19 seconds and gathered the crown of the event.
The gold medallist was followed by Alex Holyfield of Siloam Springs High School, who transpired on the finishing end for silver medal by posting an effort of 48.42 seconds. He remained just 0.15 seconds ahead of Trevor Meece of Mountain Home High School,
who ended third with the timing of 49.57 seconds.
Afterwards, the crowd witnessed scintillating efforts of Chon in the 500yard freestyle discipline. Chon displayed her smothering efforts in the distant freestyle event and reached the top of podium for gold medal by submitting a time of 5 minutes and 19.54
seconds.
She remained nearly 10 seconds ahead of Olivia Gean of Fort Smith Northside, who followed her former finisher on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 5 minutes and 29.53 seconds.
The third position of the event was obtained by Sierra Kinworthy of Conway High School, who stayed about six seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her race in a time of 5 minutes 35.77 seconds.
Moments later, Dexter Thomas of Springdale Bulldogs dictated terms to his challengers in the Boys 500yard discipline. Thomas appeared on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 43.71 seconds. He was chased by Brandon Haefner
of Bentonville High School, who seized second position of the event with an effort of 4 minutes and 49.79 seconds.
Haefner’s team-member, Austin Hunt claimed third position of the event as he hit the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 53.58 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship concluded after the completion of all scheduled events in Boys and Girls corner.
