Colts’ Addai suffers concussion
Indianapolis Colts’ running back Joseph Addai suffered a concussion in the third quarter of Thursday’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. Addai went for the tackle after the Packers scooped up a Peyton Manning fumble and went down hard on the hit.
"It's nothing," Addai said after the game. "I was fine. I just got a little dizzy, but I was cool."
Addai chased down defender Robert Francois to the two-yard line but paid the price in taking him down. Addai insisted he was fine and just felt the effects of the hit momentarily.
"I just had to catch my breath. I was fine," Addai said. "If I needed to go back in, I could've, I was straight."
Addai spoke with his teammates and trainers on the sidelines as he recovered. The Colts kept their starters in the game through the third quarter whereas the Packers pulled their starters at halftime. The Packers went on to win the exhibition 59-24.
It is not known yet whether Addai will be able to play in the next (and last) preseason game next week. It’s not expected that Addai would play as the Colts will likely exercise caution and just make sure Addai is ready for the regular season.
Addai shouldn’t be out long and the Colts are not much of a rushing team anyway. They went all the way to the Super Bowl despite being ranked 32nd in the league in rushing yards. The offence relies heavily on the pass and with Manning under centre that’s understandable.
Last season Addai gained 828 yards with 10 touchdowns. He also added 51 receptions for 336 yards and three receiving touchdowns. The Colts will now insert Donald Brown as their starting running back. In his backup role last year Brown gained 281 yards on 78 carries and three touchdowns.  He would add 11 receptions for 169 yards.
