Colts Cricket Club took the Premier Limited over Tournament Group A match against Moors Sports Club by 41 runs, on Thursday, 27 December, at Moors Sports Club.
Moors Sports Club, who chose to field, made early inroads by taking three quick wickets with Colts Cricket Club lingering on five runs.
This was a shocking start for the batting side, as they had shot themselves in the foot by losing their top three batsmen without much on the board.
It was imperative for them to save some pride by regrouping and coming back in the match, which was made possible when MDKJ Perera and MNC de Silva initiated a steady and an effective resurgence.
This partnership was vital for Colts Cricket Club, as the two batsmen led their side to 55, before MNC de Silva was given lbw after scoring ten runs off his bat.
Nonetheless, Perera was in no mood to let the bowling side comeback, as he forged another potent partnership with SM Warnapura. The batsmen continued the onslaught, keeping the fielders on their toes.
This batting duo was lethal for Moors Sports Club, as it took the score to 156 before the departure of Perera, who lost his wicket to Gunaratne after smacking a resilient knock of 94 runs off a hundred deliveries.
Unfortunately, just one run later, his batting partner Warnapura also found his way out of the action after getting trapped in front of stumps with a knock of 41 to his name.
MAP Fernando (10), SAC Kumara (19) and HIA Jayaratne (17) all chipped in, helping their side reach 208 runs in 49.5 overs.
PM Pushpakumara from Moors Sports Club was the most destructive bowler with five wickets under his belt.
Due to consistent showers, Moors Sports Club were required to chase 166 runs from 33 overs in order to win. However, they were rattled by the opposition as they lost three of their top batsmen with only 23 runs on the board.
As HIA Jayaratne (3 wickets) destroyed the batting side, as Moors Sports Club could score only 124 runs for the loss of seven wickets with SI de Saram as their top batsman for smashing 67 runs.
