Colts invite Andrew Luck to Indianapolis, Robert Griffin III remains on call for signing-NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts are going to kick off their campaign for signing the top draft pick this year in a week’s time and as a first step to explore the opportunity, they have invited the top draft pick, Andrew Luck, to Indianapolis to have an individual
workout session with him.
Colts’ general manager, Ryan Grigson, who missed the pro days of Luck and Robert Griffin III – the other top draft prize - due to an illness has now got the opportunity to personally view the players’ workout.
Grigson confirmed to have invited only Luck to Indianapolis and there is no decision of making such move for Griffin.
This, however, does not rule out the possibility of signing Griffin, as according to the manager, the management has not made their final choice.
In pursuit of their aim of weighing both players before making their final choice, , representatives from Colts minus GM were present at the pro days of both prospective professional players.
The GM said:
"Circumstances didn't allow us to do anything private with him (Griffin) so we did the usual pro day. We did the best we could with that situation. We do have a private workout that we're scheduling with Andrew in the future."
Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, is upbeat about the draft recruitment since the release of Peyton Manning.
He said he wanted to recruit the no. 1 draft, but did not clear situation around the question: whether he will be Andrew Luck or Griffin III.
He is expected to come with the certain choice after the planned workout by Luck in a couple of weeks.
While the management is keeping mum on the choice, a majority of commentators believe that Colts will select Luck. All independent ratings proved him to be an undisputed No. 1 pick.
Luck himself apparently has nothing to say about the prospects of joining a professional team.
He said:
"Obviously you want to go No. 1, who wouldn't want to go No. 1. I'm just trying to prepare myself for the NFL, whichever team that is. Whether it's watching certain defences or going out there and working on throws I've never done before.”
The draft season is going to start in April, with first round completing on 26th. It is expected that Colts would be able to make their choice final by then.
Colts’ management has recently increased the pace of the team’s rebuilding drive. This includes the activities around the opportunity of signing new quarterback.
Irsay is personally heading the drive to make sure they come out with best decision and avoid becoming a target of untimely release of Peyton Manning. He wants to make sure that his decision was credible and in the best interest of the team.
